Al-Kahf

Translation By
Dr. Mustafa Khattab
18:1
All Praise
(is) for Allah
the One Who
(has) revealed
to
His slave
the Book
and not
(has) made
in it
ﯥﯦany crookedness
(1)

All praise is for Allah Who has revealed the Book to His servant,1 allowing no crookedness in it,
18:2
Straight
to warn
(of) a punishment
severe
from
near Him
and give glad tidings
(to) the believers
those who
do
righteous deeds
that
for them
(is) a good reward
(is) a good reward
(2)

˹making it˺ perfectly upright, to warn ˹the disbelievers˺ of a severe torment from Him; to give good news to the believers—who do good—that they will have a fine reward,
18:3
(They will) abide
in it
forever
(3)

in which they will remain forever;
18:4
And to warn
those who
say
ﯿAllah has taken
Allah has taken
a son
(4)

and to warn those who claim, “Allah has offspring.”1
18:5
Not
they have
about it
any
knowledge
and not
ﭗﭘtheir forefathers
Grave (is)
the word
(that) comes out
of
ﭝﭞtheir mouths
Not
they say
except
a lie
(5)

They have no knowledge of this, nor did their forefathers. What a terrible claim that comes out of their mouths! They say nothing but lies.
18:6
Then perhaps you would (be)
the one who kills
yourself
over
their footsteps
if
not
they believe
in this
[the] narration
(in) grief
(6)

Now, perhaps you ˹O Prophet˺ will grieve yourself to death over their denial, if they ˹continue to˺ disbelieve in this message.
18:7
Indeed, We
We have made
what
(is) on
the earth
adornment
for it
that We may test [them]
which of them
(is) best
(in) deed
(7)

We have indeed made whatever is on earth as an adornment for it, in order to test which of them is best in deeds.
18:8
And indeed, We
(will) surely make
what
ﭿ(is) on it
soil
barren
(8)

And We will certainly reduce whatever is on it to barren ground.
18:9
Or
have you thought
that
(the) companions
(of) the cave
and the inscription
were
among
Our Signs
a wonder
(9)

Have you ˹O Prophet˺ thought that the people of the cave and the plaque1 were ˹the only˺ wonders of Our signs?
18:10
When
retreated
the youths
to
the cave
and they said
Our Lord
Grant us
from
Yourself
Mercy
and facilitate
for us
[from]
our affair
(in the) right way
(10)

˹Remember˺ when those youths took refuge in the cave, and said, “Our Lord! Grant us mercy from Yourself and guide us rightly through our ordeal.”
